Revert Neighborhood Street Light Bulbs in The Woodlands to Warmer More Natural Lighting

The Issue

As residents of the peaceful Woodlands, we moved to this area for its natural aesthetic appeal and tranquility. Unfortunately, this has been compromised by the installation of bright LED street lights - one of which is directly in front of our driveway. Our home is now bright as daylight even in the dead of night. Not only are these lights excessively glaring and disruptive when we walk out of our front door, but they may also be causing harm to our young children's vision.

Research shows that exposure to bright white LEDs in the evening can disrupt natural sleep patterns and is harmful to the eyes. In a study done by the American Medical Association, the excessive blue spectrum light generated by LEDs has been proven to damage retinal cells (American Medical Association, 2016). We urge city planners to consider this harm and reconsider the type of lighting used in our neighborhood.

Respect for local requirements and sensitivities led us to move to The Woodlands, with its attention to preserving a unique community spirit and a natural wooded environment. The recent changes are a stark deviation from these principles. We propose returning to the use of natural amber incandescent light bulbs, which align better with our community's values and respect for nature.

Let's conserve The Woodlands' rustic beauty and protect the health of our community members. We urge the responsible authorities to replace the harsh, health-detrimental bright white LED lights with more natural warm lights  2700k  (kelvin range). Please sign this petition to stand for a healthier, naturally lit Woodlands.
