Progress Update: Advocacy Efforts Gaining Momentum for ESL Programs

Thank you so much for signing our petition—it truly means a lot. Over the past week, momentum has grown rapidly, with our petition now surpassing 375 signatures and garnering media attention from CTV.

This week, our focus will shift to gaining the support of MLAs to help us make a strong case to the Minister of Education, Ranjan Sawhney. Once we secure MLA support, we will concentrate all efforts on engaging directly with Minister Sawhney to present our petition.

We are also encouraged by recent advocacy at the federal level, as several MPs in Ontario have sent a letter of concern to the Ministers of Finance and Immigration regarding the funding reductions that have led to widespread ESL program limitations across Canada. If these cuts are reversed, Bow Valley College will have no reason to close their programs—this is a very hopeful development.

In addition to signing the petition, we kindly ask you to consider writing to your MLA and MP as soon as possible to encourage their support for ESL programs. Form letters for both are available on our website, standupforesl.ca

Thank you again for your incredible support—it has been key in highlighting this important issue and drawing the attention it deserves!
