As an athlete affected by the International Powerlifting Federation's (IPF) recent decision to make stiff knee sleeves illegal, I want to lend my voice and share my concern with the impact of this rule. This decision not only affects my performance, but it also affects athletes across the globe, creating a global issue and brand inequality. Knee sleeves, specifically stiff ones, provide vital support and stability to athletes during heavy lifts. By banning their usage, the IPF minimizes the tools we have to optimize our performance and potentially jeopardizes our safety.

The knee sleeve market has exploded with different versions, some stiffer than others, but it is these stiffer versions that seem to have been singled out. This decision creates a brand inequality as it gives an undue advantage to brands that produce softer sleeves, while disadvantaging those that manufacture and sell stiffer ones. Therefore, this decision is not only affecting athletes but businesses as well and it lacks a level playing field.

Numerous studies suggest that using knee sleeves can reduce the strain on the knees and lower the risk of injury. This protective gear serves as a versatile tool that offers more than just physical support. It gives athletes the confidence to push their boundaries while reducing their fear of injury.
