Reverse the Ban on Metal Water/Drink Containers in Rosedale Union School District

Reverse the Ban on Metal Water/Drink Containers in Rosedale Union School District
The Issue
Our students are at risk. The recent ban on metal water/drink containers in Rosedale Union School District puts them at a higher risk of dehydration, heat stroke, and heat exhaustion. These risks are especially high during triple digit heat when a properly insulated, metal container is essential to keep water cold.
The ban not only jeopardizes the health of our children but also contradicts environmental efforts to reduce plastic waste. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour - that's nearly 1.5 billion per day! By allowing students to use reusable metal containers, we can significantly contribute towards reducing this number and promoting sustainability within our community.
Furthermore, studies have shown that adequate hydration improves cognitive function and learning ability in children (American Journal of Public Health). By denying students access to cold water through these insulated metal water bottles, we may inadvertently be affecting their academic performance as well.
We urge the Rosedale Union School District to reconsider this decision for the wellbeing of our children and for our environment. Please sign this petition if you believe in both allowing students to have a choice of water bottle for proper hydration during school hours, and providing a safe and sustainable environment for our future generations.
