The Issue

We are living in a time of financial uncertainty. The cost of living has skyrocketed, from groceries to utility bills, making it increasingly challenging for families to make ends meet. As a parent of schoolchildren at Bromham Primary, I am seriously concerned about the recent decision to mandate branded polo tops for the school uniform.

For many parents, especially those with more than one child attending Bromham Primary, the added expense of these branded uniforms is unsustainable. Supermarket alternatives are far more affordable and just as durable, providing a valid alternative without compromising the quality or appearance of our children's uniforms.

In a survey conducted by Money Advice Service, it was found that the average cost of a school uniform is £194. Many families are already prioritizing essentials over such discretionary expenses. Bromham Primary's insistence on branded polo tops contributes to this financial strain, and it feels unfair when there are more cost-effective options available.

Moreover, a study by the Children’s Society showed that one in six parents have had to cut back on food to afford school uniforms, which is a stark reality that should not be overlooked. The pressure these costs put on families is immense.

We urge the school's administration to reconsider this decision. By allowing generic polo tops from supermarkets, Bromham Primary can significantly alleviate the financial burden on its community.

Please join us in calling for a change that supports all families by signing this petition. Let's make school uniforms affordable for everyone.
