The Issue

Bert Fleming Park, a cherished green space for the residents of Ward 6 in Mississauga, is in dire need of revitalization. This petition aims to transform the park into a more inclusive and dynamic community hub that caters to the interests and needs of local residents, including those from Queenston Dr., Credit Woodlands, and surrounding neighborhoods.

Currently, the park lacks facilities that accommodate the diverse range of activities our community desires. By introducing pickleball courts, we can provide a much-needed recreational option for all ages, fostering both health and social interaction. Pickleball, a rapidly growing sport, appeals to a broad demographic, offering a fun and accessible way to stay active. Installing pickleball courts in Bert Fleming Park will not only enhance the park's appeal but also promote physical fitness and community cohesion.

Furthermore, a fenced leash-free dog park would be a tremendous asset for dog owners in the area. This addition will provide a safe and dedicated space for dogs to play and socialize off-leash, reducing the risk of conflict and ensuring the safety of both pets and park-goers. Many cities have successfully integrated such spaces, contributing to their residents' quality of life. These designated areas encourage responsible pet ownership and have shown to lower instances of dog-related issues in public spaces.

The transformation of Bert Fleming Park with these new facilities can serve as a model for urban park rejuvenation, emphasizing community involvement and diverse functionality. Our vision is to create an inviting, vibrant, and multifunctional park that reflects the values and lifestyles of our community members.

We urge Councillor Horneck to prioritize this project and allocate the necessary resources to bring about these enhancements. The benefits of such developments are numerous and align with our community’s growth and prosperity.

Please support this initiative by signing the petition, showing your agreement for a more vibrant and equipped Bert Fleming Park that meets the needs of all its users.
