The Issue

Lynn is a 12 yr old female  Orca at the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium in Japan,  known for being the only Orca born at that Facility.  Her Story is marked by a series of separations from her Family Members,  leaving her recently in Solitary Confinement after the death of her companion and her Nephew Earth.  Born in Captivity Lynn was born head first on Nov 13, 2012, to her Mother Stella and Father Bingo.  Both Lynn and her older Sister Ran  was born head first,  rare occurrence for Orca Calves. Her Father Bingo,  died in 2014, Lynn was 2 yrs old. Her older Sister Ran,  who helped raise her,  was moved to a different facility in 2015. Her Nephew Earth was transferred to Nagoya to live with Lynn and her Mother Stella in 2015. Lynn spent many years living and performing with her Mother and Nephew. She developed a strong,  affectionate bond with Earth,  and they were known for their synchronized performances.  In March 2024, Stella was transferred to the newly built Kobe Suma Sea World.  A video showed Stella calling out for Lynn shortly after the move,  as both Orcas reacted poorly to the separation.  On August 3, 2025, Earth died suddenly after an illness.  His death left Lynn as the only Orca at the Port of Nagoya Aquarium. Temporary Companions after Earth's death, two Bottlenose Dolphins for Temporary Companionship.  The initial interaction raised concern after Lynn was seen chasing them, but her behavior later settled.  The Port of Nagoya Aquarium is now considering long term plans to address Lynn's Solitary Confinement,  which is psychologically damaging for Highly Social Orcas.  They are now exploring options such as transferring Lynn to another facility or importing another  Orca to be her Companion.
