RETURN RIGHTS TO AFGHAN WOMEN!!!

RETURN RIGHTS TO AFGHAN WOMEN!!!

The Issue

Afgan women have been stripped of their human rights.

Ban on Higher Education: Girls are banned from attending school beyond the sixth grade (age 12), and women are entirely barred from attending universities. This makes Afghanistan the only country in the world with such restrictions.

Severe Workplace Restrictions: Women are prohibited from working in most sectors, including civil service, national and international NGOs, and STEM fields, with minor, highly restricted exceptions in emergency healthcare.

Erasure from Public Space: Women are banned from entering public parks, gyms, swimming pools, and beauty salons.

Loss of Freedom of Movement: Women cannot travel distances further than 45 miles (72 km) or use public transportation unless accompanied by a mahram (a close male relative).

Strict Dress Codes: Morality laws require women to completely cover their faces and bodies in public. Furthermore, laws prohibit women from speaking, singing, or reading aloud in public spaces where their voices might be heard by male strangers

The Taliban dismantled the Ministry of Women's Affairs and eliminated formal judicial protections against domestic violence and forced marriage.

  • Discriminatory Family Laws: Legal decrees make it exceptionally difficult for women to separate from abusive spouses, while implicitly normalizing child marriage.
  • Rising Humanitarian and Mental Health Crisis: Due to extreme isolation and the loss of a future, human rights organization report a massive surge in depression and anxiety among Afghan women, alongside a sharp rise in female suicide rates.
