We are fast approaching to 200 signatures on our Change.org Petition. I suggest to any supporter that you know who hasn't signed this petition to please do so as we appreciate anyone's feedback about what needs to be improved in terms of public transport services for the Casey, Cardinia, Bass Coast, Wellington and South Gippsland districts as this cause is not solely about getting a train back to just Leongatha. Its for all of the communities along the former 'Great Southern Railway' Corridor. News about the latest developments from the South and West Gippsland Transport Group are included in this message below: South Gippsland Shire Council has written to Baw Baw, Bass Coast, Cardinia and Casey Shires, the Gippsland Local Government Network, the Municipal Association of Victoria and Victorian Rail Freight Alliance requesting their support for an integrated transport plan for South and West Gippsland that includes rail. The Victorian Rail Freight Alliance has agreed in principle to include the request for an Integrated Transport plan in their policy document for the election that is yet to be confirmed. South and West Gippsland Transport Group Members Brian Hess, spokesman Max Semkin and Cr. Andrew McEwen presented this to the Bass Coast Council briefing on Wednesday. It was a positive hearing. Their CEO Neil Rankine suggested that South Gippsland Shire convene a meeting of council and Lachlan McDonald Department of Transport and local representatives to discus a plan and if agree to do the specifications for it. The CEO thought that this would probably get a jersey if the Casey Cardinia and Baw Baw Shires support it. It was acknowledged that there is a strong recognition of congestion issues into Melbourne. This issue will be on the agenda of the Gippsland Local Government Network for the July meeting. Cr. Andrew McEwen will request a time to brief the Casey and Cardinia Shire Council. The latest developments will be progressively posted on the website. Message sent by Chris Cantlon, Admin of Victorian Government: 'Return The Leongatha Pass' (South Gippsland Train) Facebook Page and Website.
