Dear friends and supporters,
Senator Lidia Thorpe has generously agreed to table our petition to Return Lee Point to the Care of Larrakia People this Thursday 4 July - but we need your help to get the petition to 15,000 signatures before she does.
We are currently sitting just under 14,000 supporters. Will you help us get to 15,000?
You can do this by:
- Sharing the petition with your friends on Facebook
- Sending the petition to a group chat or person via WhatsApp
- Tweeting the petition to your followers
- Sharing my latest video on Instagram
- Sharing the petition on LinkedIn
- Copying the petition link and sharing it with friends and family via email: https://www.change.org/ProtectLeePoint
We are so grateful to Senator Lidia Thorpe for filing this petition on behalf of Larrakia families, our lands and our supporters.
To date, the Chief Minister of the NT government (Eva Lawler), the NT Minister for Aboriginal Affairs (Chanston Paech), the NT Minister for Environment (Kate Worden) and the Casuarina Electorate MP (Lauren Moss) have ignored or declined our requests to meet with them about the need to protect and return sacred Larrakia land. The Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has also refused to meet with us and redirected the responsibility to the Federal Minister of Defence Richard Marles - who has also ignored us.
By tabling this petition with the Federal government, we begin a legal process that ministers and members of parliament cannot ignore.
But we know we can't rely on parliamentary processes alone - with the support of everyone who has donated to the campaign and/or purchased a t-shirt, I will be able to travel to Canberra to deliver the petition in person and (hopefully) speak with journalists about the need to protect and return our beautiful lands and sacred sites.
Thank you again for all your support,
Laniyuk
P.S. If you have purchased a Return Lee Point t-shirt, we’d love to see it! Please upload a pic of yourself rocking this important message and use the hashtag #LeePoint2Larrakia
