Currently, at GMS, students are not allowed to sit with whoever they like to at lunch, except on a rare friday reward, they are forced to sit with their class that they have at lunch. This is a change from the past two years at GMS, where students were allowed to sit wherever they want. This also differs from other schools in the Greeneville City School district. At Greeneville High students have free-choice on where they sit.

 Students should be provided with free-seating choices, as it is one of the very few chances they are given to socialize with friends during the day. At GMS, students are instucted to walk directly from classes, and hall conversations are broken up by teachers. There is no recess period that provides students time to socialize, so currently the only chance for socialization with people they do not have classes with is during the short morning bus duty, but even with this not every student is able to arrive before 7:30 when students are dismissed to class.

This can harm relationships between students, especially those who lack ways of communication with their friends after school hours. The solution is to provide students with free lunch seating, so they're able to sit with their friends.

Many professionals agree that free lunch seating does not just allow time to socialize, but also decreases chaos at lunch, as students are less likely to communicate between tables, as they are already sitting with the people they want to communicate with.

Finally it also can provide new friendships, as when new students come into school, or there are people that you simply don't know, lunch is the perfect time to go up to them and introduce your self.

Students are unhappy with the current situation at GMS so lets join together and show the administration and lunch monitors we need change.
