Return Former President Duterte to the Philippines

The Issue

Speaking as a concerned Filipino, I've witnessed first-hand the illicit drug trade's devastating effects on our youth—an elementary student engaging in such activities, manipulated by unscrupulous adults. Our children should be dreaming of bright futures, not becoming pawns in a harmful black market. Duterte's fight against drugs was a centerpiece of his presidency. He gave our people a hope: a promise of a safer country, free from the grips of the illicit drug trade.

The international community may view Duterte's anti-drug methods as controversial, whilst others see them as necessary responses to an overwhelming issue. Regardless, it's important to remember that Duterte's decisions as former president were rooted in attempts to maintain Filipino safety and curtail the rampant drug trade. Philippines' Dangerous Drugs Board estimated that 1.8 million Filipinos used illegal drugs in 2015. Fast forward to the end of Duterte's term, and there's been a reduction of drug users by 24% (2019 Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency report).

The International Criminal Court's move to investigate Duterte threatens to disrupt the progress so far achieved. That's why we urge the ICC to reconsider their decision and return Duterte to the Philippines. Let's respect our sovereignty and allow us, the Filipino citizens, to decide the future of our beloved country. Please, sign this petition and let our voices be heard.
