This petition is nearly 2,000 strong, and we have a new, New Zealand based petition. If every one of you signed and shared and encouraged your animal-loving friends to do the same, we could have a sea of new signatures to show DOC. Whether you are located in Aotearoa New Zealand or overseas, we need your help. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14jEFe6p3f/

Charlie has endured a great deal the last few months, and we've documented these concerns on her facebook page. The aggressive and frustrated male continues to harass and attack Charlie. Her wing sag is only getting worse, particularly since she often has to fly away from the male on her arthritic wing. And her distress weaving continues.
What she isn't doing is 'performing' or 'producing' for DOC management who decided to move her to their breeding mill despite all the concerns that were raised before and after the move to Dunedin. Since Charlie was moved to Dunedin to 'foster genetically valuable chicks,' we are worried that DOC will soon decide Charlie is not only 'worthless' to them but also an 'embarrassment.' DOC have failed Charlie, but they say she will go 'anywhere but home.'
A recent visitor found Charlie weaving from the ceiling after sunset. All the other birds were resting and preparing to sleep as darkness fell, but not our Charlie. And as if DOC wasn't blind enough, internal emails reveal Charlie was weaving within the first hour at Dunedin. DOC has failed to address Charlie's special needs, they have failed to acknowledge and address concerns, and they believed Charlie's hormones would somehow override her stress.
DOC doesn't want to listen, so we need an army of supporters. Please sign and share our petition widely so that DOC can no longer ignore those who care for Charlie Girl. DOC needs to allow Charlie to return home, where she is loved and supported.
