Retain the 'Every Fifteen Minutes' Program at Claremont High School for 2023-2024

Retain the 'Every Fifteen Minutes' Program at Claremont High School for 2023-2024
The Issue
The 'Every Fifteen Minutes' program is an integral part of the school year at Claremont High School. This educational program has been used to raise awareness about the consequences of drunk driving, a leading cause of death among teenagers in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). It's estimated that every day, 8 teenagers in America die as a result of drunk driving crashes. Percentages of deaths involving cannabis and alcohol has more than doubled going from 4.8% to 10.3%. The program’s removal from our school year 2023-2024 would deprive students of this crucial learning experience. We believe that education and awareness are key to preventing such tragedies. Therefore, we urge the school administration to retain this important educational tool in our curriculum for this academic year. Please sign this petition and support us in keeping 'Every Fifteen Minutes' at Claremont High School for 2023-2024.
Testimony from a former student: The “Every Fifteen Minutes” program at CHS was the pinnacle of my experience while I attended the school. I was class of 2020 so “Every Fifteen Minutes” was one of the last things I did on campus at Claremont High School. The program was not only educational, but it was truly emotional, and I felt more connected with my peers than I ever had in my time at CHS. The program taught us about the dangers of drunk driving, but it also taught us very important team building skills and empathy for our peers. We also had to work on a time crunch and that kind of pressure really made us adapt and work like we never had before and it was an exemplary learning experience. Overall, I would say that “Every Fifteen Minutes” is one of the best events that I participated in during my 4 years at Claremont High School, and I will use the skills I learned, and cherish the memories I made during that time for the rest of my life.
