At the heart of Shinshu University, we are witnessing the disturbing & disrespectful treatment of hardworking staff members due to a variety of factors beyond their control. Our respected professional colleague and English language teacher, Mark Brierley, is at risk of losing his job at his university.

With the declining birth rate and reductions in government subsidies, the operational pressures on universities have increased in recent years. In many cases, this has led to workers at numerous universities being dealt with, what can only be seen, as unfair consequences. One such consequence we stand against today—the potential job termination of Mark Brierley.

The concern doesn't stop here—this trend, if unaddressed, could potentially harm the international competitiveness of Japanese universities, which could in turn negatively impact our education standards and future growth.

While we acknowledge that financial challenges need to be dealt with, the solution should not come at the cost of respecting and retaining experienced, skilled professionals like Mark Brierley, who contribute significantly to the university's reputation and students' learning.

Our request is simple, yet crucial for the future of our university and community: We urge the President of Shinshu University to reconsider this decision and to seek alternative ways to address any financial constraints. Let's keep valued professionals like Mark Brierley in their rightful place—teaching and enriching our students.

We value the work that Mark Brierley does, and we ask for your support. Please sign this petition to voice your opinion on retaining Mark Brierley at Shinshu University.
