Third, and most important, there is something we can do that would be far more effective than signing a petition: sign up for classes with low enrollment.
This could work because if tenured faculty’s classes don’t meet a minimum enrollment, they automatically bump lecturers. This is a university-wide policy that Andrew can’t change. You can find classes with low enrollment by searching the class schedule for classes with lots of seats. Verify by opening that class and looking at the ratio of “seats in class” to “enrolled.” I realize this could mean some people will have to sign up for classes they don’t want. I believe it will be possible to drop them after the term starts without hurting the faculty. (I myself have signed up for my maximum load.)

“I've consulted with some of my colleagues and we've landed on a strategy that could save not only Junse's classes but those of the other lecturer faculty as well. It's a strategy that needs to be acted on now—can't wait until the 19th.
“This is what we / you need to do. Tell everyone who signed the petition—and cast a wider net if possible—to enroll in the low-enrolled classes, especially Paul Hoover's 810 class. If our classes have sufficient enrollment, no one's class will be cut. We only need 4 more students to enroll in Paul's class. There are some Directed Writing classes that could use more students too. Maybe folks want the flexibility that Directed Writing offers. Undergrads are also eligible to enroll in grad classes with instructor's permission. So spread the word on social media and through all channels: enroll in the low-enrolled classes and that will save Junse's and the other lecturers' classes.”
