This is a petition for the major food retailers in the UK to bring Respeggt kill-free eggs to their stores.

Without this process, an estimated 4-6 billion male chicks are slaughtered globally every year because they serve no economic purpose. Some are suffocated, others are fed alive into grinding or shredding machines to be processed into reptile food. (Credit: Guardian)

According to a report (LINK), UK retailers are blocking the adoption of these much more humane eggs - claiming lack of consumer demand, and most disgracefully that if they start stocking 'kill-free' eggs, consumers will realise that regular eggs are 'with chick culling', which they wouldn't have been aware of before. They are saying they want the true nature of egg production to be kept a secret! This is not only hugely disrespectful to customers, but is a gross example of greed over ethics.

Germany, France, and soon Italy are all this embracing positive change in the egg industry, but the UK so far refuses to.

It doesn't have to be this way!

Consumer purchases are not dictated by tastebuds alone. Production methods and humane efforts are a growing motivation for most shoppers. I believe that whichever retailer over here takes the bold first step to bring these to the UK will mark themselves out as a pioneer in the field of ethical and sustainable food retail practice and enjoy massive positive attention. This will be huge and awaits the visionary first mover.
