As a resident who commutes on Ashland Avenue from Rosehill Drive to Foster Avenue in the 40th Ward multiple times a week, I have personally witnessed the deterioration of this road. Every time I drive, I'm forced to swerve my car to avoid hitting potholes, endangering my safety and the safety of other road users. This road has been riddled with potholes for years, and each year the state of the road worsens. Minor patchwork hole filling is making it even worse.

The American Society of Civil Engineers' Report Card for America’s Infrastructure gives roads a ‘D’ grade due to its poor condition and capacity issues, showing a nationwide struggle, but here in our community, we can take action locally (Source: ASCE Infrastructure Report Card 2021). We urge the aldermen in the 40th ward to take action and prioritize the resurfacing of Ashland Avenue from Rosehill Drive to Foster Avenue. Not only will this action reduce vehicle damages and potential accidents, but it will also enhance the commuting experience for all who travel this path.
