Since August 2019, the Samjhauta Express and Thar Express, two historically significant train services running between India and Pakistan, have been suspended, disrupting lives and affecting inter-country relationships. The Samjhauta Express used to support critical links between Delhi, India, and Lahore, Pakistan, whereas the Thar Express connected Jodhpur, India and Zero Point, Pakistan. These trains were not just modes of transport, but lifelines, providing crucial pathways for families and friends divided by borders to connect. Approximately 14,000 people used the Samjhauta Express annually, and similar passenger numbers were observed for the Thar Express (source: Ministry of Railways, India & Pakistan). Their five-year hiatus has imposed severe hardships on these individuals. We demand that these valuable trans-border services resume operation. Lift the suspension, permit these historical railways to continue offering essential connections, and embody the spirit of goodwill they represent between the two nations.
