Restoring Pride in Edgware Station Road

The Issue

I am a resident of this community and every morning I am confronted with the poor state of our high street. It's disappointing and disgusting to walk on dirty, broken pavements while litter accumulates in the street from fox-accessible bins. We can't ignore the fact that despite the high council taxes we pay, the local municipality doesn't invest funds in improving the situation, nor does it enforce anti-littering regulations. Our high street, particularly the area near Edgware Station entrance and in front of coffee shops and restaurants, needs immediate attention not only because it's unsightly, but also because it poses dangers to pedestrians. The broken, dirty pavements make walking challenging, especially for people with physical disabilities and the elderly. Littering not only tarnishes the image of our community, impacting property prices but it also creates an environment conducive to pests, which pose health risks. The lack of enough bins by coffee places, restaurants, food shops and gambling stores leaves customers with no option for food wrappers and cigarettes buds and so there are plenty of them everywhere. The obsolete public phone boxes stand as grimy relics of the past and mars the aesthetic of the street. I am asking the local authority to double the number of bins, especially in high traffic areas, replace the existing bins with fox-proof ones with cigarette extinguishers, purchase a pavement cleaning machine, remove the old public phone boxes, clean up the weeds around the station and in front of the shopping centre and regularly maintain these improvements. These are not unreasonable demands, especially considering that according to UK Local Government Statistics, councils have been given an increase in funding of 4.5% in 2021. It’s time our high street saw some of that financial investment and commitment. Please sign this petition and let's make our community clean, safe, and pleasant to live in.
