The Issue

In the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, where green spaces are scarce and the hustle of city life can be punishing, the "moat" around the DWP/Ferraro Building serves as a rare retreat - an oasis.

For months now, that oasis has been closed to the public after 6pm and on weekends.

We've been told that the actions of a few led to the reduction in hours, which were previously 24/7.

While we understand the security needs, we are also struggling without a tranquil, safe place to walk and reflect, to enjoy the vistas of the city as well as the magnificent public artwork, Colpa D'Ala, best seen from the building's walkway.  Visitors to the Music Center enjoy this special area, too.

So much of the city is struggling now, and safe spaces are in short supply, which makes this beautiful space all the more vital to our collective well-being.

We're respectfully asking the DWP to consider opening the walkway again till 9pm and on weekdays at the least.

Thank you.

UPDATE on 11/2 at 4:50pm: The DWP has agreed to extend week night strolling by an hour. We're told the "moat" will now be open till 7pm. This is good, but weekend stroll time is crucial.
