Since April 2020, the N & O late-night Marguerite lines and the Shopping Express line have been “suspended until further notice.” These lines were crucial to Stanford students, allowing them to travel around campus at night on public transit rather than walking through our dark campus at a risk to one’s safety. Furthermore, the lines serviced transit to and from the Caltrain station and shopping centers– like Target and Walmart– permitting access to much-needed groceries and supplies. While many lines were suspended and reinstated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these lines are the few that remain suspended today.

Both the Undergraduate Senate and Graduate Student Council have advocated for the return of these lines. In the UGS’ Resolution To Address Sexual Violence Responses On Campus and the GSC’s Bill on Affordability, both bodies have called on the administration to do just that. Yet, they have not.

When denying these requests, we have heard that there is a lack of student support for the lines to be brought back– we don’t believe this. They have the money, they have the staff, and they have the buses. They can bring back these lines and refuse to do so. By signing this petition, you are indicating that you believe these lines should return to help with affordability, public safety, and equity.
