Restore the Martha Laird Chapter of the NSDAR
The Issue
I supportof the Martha Laird Chapter, NSDAR, we have profoundly felt the absence and void left by its unexpected disbandment. For many of us, the chapter was more than just an organization— it was a community. It was where we connected with our history, contributed to our communities, and fostered friendships that transcended generations. For decades, the Martha Laird Chapter stood as a beacon of service and heritage, deeply rooted in the vibrant history of Texas.
The closure of our beloved chapter has not only stripped away a significant historical society but has also left many without the opportunity to partake in local DAR initiatives and service projects. The Martha Laird Chapter was pivotal in furthering educational programs, promoting historic preservation, and encouraging active citizenship, directly benefiting our local communities in Texas.
Without transparency in decision-making from the NSDAR regarding the chapter’s disbandment, numerous questions remain unanswered. Why was a thriving chapter, esteemed for its contributions to Texas's cultural and historical landscape, disbanded without prior consultation or input from its members? We urge the NSDAR and TXDAR to disclose the reasons and documents related to this decision, providing clarity and closure.
Moreover, this situation has highlighted the need for a comprehensive review of DAR membership criteria and eligibility assessments. For a society grounded in the values of liberty and community service, it is imperative that the process remains inclusive, transparent, and fair, ensuring all eligible individuals have the opportunity to join and partake in DAR’s mission.
We propose a meeting between NSDAR authorities, the Texas Society, and representatives of the former Martha Laird Chapter to discuss the potential reinstatement of the chapter. Additionally, we suggest forming a committee to evaluate current membership eligibility procedures to guarantee they reflect DAR's values and goals.
In a time where community and historical preservation are more important than ever, we believe restoring the Martha Laird Chapter will revitalize local initiatives and foster a renewed spirit of collaboration and volunteerism.
We kindly request your attention and action to address these concerns and facilitate the restoration of the Martha Laird Chapter. Support us in maintaining the rich legacy of DAR in Texas. Please sign this petition to show your support for transparency, fair evaluation, and the revival of a beloved chapter. Together, we can make a difference.
