Restore the Hunter Springs Park hours!!!
The Issue
UPDATE: I'm activating this petition! Crystal River city government is trying to take our recreation rights away AGAIN! We fought hard and agreed on the hours, but the city government secretly changed the hours without notifying residents! The current park hours are:
April 1-August 31 - 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
September 1 - October 31 - 8:00 am - 7:00 pm
November 1 - March 31 - 8:00 am - 5:30 am
City government set new completely unreasonable hours that will rob the families from their their beach time. The beach would be closing at 5:30 the whole period between September 1 and March 31 which is ABSURD!
Again, this was done behind our backs! City government treats OUR PUBLIC BEACH like their own property! This is SOCIALISM folks and is absolutely unacceptable!
WE DEMAND TO RETURN TO CURRENT HOURS and allow the families to use the beach at least until 7:00 pm September 1 - October 31, and March 1 - April 30!
The Hunter Springs Park beach in Crystal River is the only beach located on the river in the area. Many local families and tourists come here to enjoy the beautiful park and swim. For years the park had hours from 8:00am to Sunset which was perfect for every season and convenient for the people.
However the city of Crystal River government WITHOUT ASKING THE RESIDENTS changed the hours to much earlier, which is now only until 8:00pm in summer and 5:30pm(!!!) starting in September! This is outrageous and power overreach. The government shouldn't deprive people and especially children from swimming and enjoying nature.
This affects not only tourists, but mostly local families who come to the park after work with their kids. They also threaten people with fines and jail time! This is discrimination of the Crystal River and neighboring towns residents who mostly come to this park after work and school. There is no reason to close this park before the sunset.
We find this decision unjustified on all levels and it needs to be reviewed and have an open vote from the city residents. The hours need to be changed back to what they were before. Please sign this petition to have the park hours changed to 8:00 am to sunset. This would benefit both local residents and tourists.
