Restore Specialist-Led Diabetes Services at Concord Hospital, NSW

Restore Specialist-Led Diabetes Services at Concord Hospital, NSW
The issue
My sister, who lives with a disability and relies on a pension, has been significantly affected by the disruption of specialist-led diabetes services at Concord Hospital in Sydney, NSW. She, like many others, requires continuous support from experienced specialists to effectively manage her health condition. The reduction of this essential clinic has been detrimental to her well-being and to countless other vulnerable patients who were dependent on its comprehensive care.
For many years, Concord Hospital’s diabetes service was a beacon of hope, offering world-class, patient-centred care under the leadership of a dedicated specialist. Unfortunately, the removal of this clinical leadership has not only increased hospitalisations but also led to a decline in diabetes control for many patients, resulting in new or worsening complications. This short-sighted decision of Concord Hospital and NSW Health appears to place administrative priorities of cost-cutting above patient care and welfare.
Diabetes is a complex and relentless condition that requires specialized knowledge and resources for effective management. Without stable, specialist-led services, patients face unnecessary health risks and a drastic decline in their quality of life.
We urge Concord Hospital and NSW Health to prioritise patient safety over administrative convenience and to restore full specialist-led diabetes services without delay. This will ensure that patients receive the high-quality care needed to stabilise their conditions and prevent further
complications.
Restoring this leadership will not only benefit my sister and our family, but also demonstrate a genuine commitment to protecting vulnerable patients across our community. Stand with us in demanding immediate action to safeguard specialist-led diabetes care at Concord Hospital. Please sign this petition to support this essential cause.
