Restore religious rights and end persecution of Mahdavis in Shahdadpur, Sindh,Pakistan

The Issue

As followers of Hz Syed Muhammad Jaunpuri(AS), we are the voice of the dispossessed Mahdavi Muslims facing religious persecution in Shahdadpur, Sindh, Pakistan.

The Mahdavi Muslims believe that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is our final Prophet and Messenger. We do not believe in appearance of any new Prophet after Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Mahdavi Muslims hold the belief that Hazrat Syed Muhammad Jaunpuri(AS) is the promised Mahdi whose advent was foretold by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Though our beliefs are traditional Sunni beliefs, we differ in matters of issues related to the advent of Mahdi much like the different Sunni sects differ with each other on various issues. For this belief, we have continually faced illegal eviction from our places of worship, specifically the Mahdavi Mosque, and coerced renunciation of our faith.

This petition calls attention to the ongoing unwarranted and illegal occupation of our mosque by other Muslim sects and the continuous harassment of Mahdavis in Shahdadpur, Sindh Pakistan. This occupation not only deprives us of our right to worship but also fosters an environment of fear, insecurity, and suppression.

Islam's quintessential characteristic is its capacity to promote peace, but we have become victims of persecution. The authorities, particularly the district police and administration, remain unresponsive to our appeals, further amplifying our sense of helplessness. Threats to our lives have become a common occurrence, and we are left feeling vulnerable by the apathy of Pakistani local, state and national leaders, lawmakers and security establishment whose duty is to protect the rights of all civilians. We invite the Council of Ulema of Pakistan to discuss religious issues pertaining to the Promised Mahdi(AS) as stipulated by Islamic Law before issuing biased fatwas on our expulsion from Islam. The message of Islam is – La’Ikraha Fid Deen (Let there be no compulsion in religion).

We, therefore, demand that the rights and safety of Mahdavi Muslims in Shahdadpur be upheld. We ask that properties seized from us, especially the Mahdavi Mosque, be returned to our community and that this unceasing persecution end. We require immediate intervention from the authorities. We plead with you to take a stand, not just for us, but for the principles of justice, freedom, and equality. Please sign this petition and lend your voice to our cause.
