Restore Pegasus as UCF's Primary Brand
The Issue
To the UCF Board of Trustees and President Cartwright:
The Pegasus is more than a logo for UCF. Since 1968, it has stood for our academic heritage and its "Reach for the Stars" spirit.
UCF has announced that the stacked UCF mark, which it shares with Athletics, will now lead all new external marketing and communications. Pegasus will remain in the seal and on campus, but it will no longer be the face the world sees first.
The stacked mark works well in athletics. It shouldn't be the primary identity of the university's academic mission. A distinctive academic symbol helps attract students, engage alumni, and build pride across campus, and Pegasus is the one that is uniquely UCF's.
I respectfully urge the Board of Trustees and the President to reverse this decision and restore Pegasus as UCF's primary brand.
