Handsworth parents - as you may have heard the cafeteria has opened at our school. While having a cafeteria is welcome addition to our school, the school district has signed a contract with the cafeteria operators stating that other food based fundraisers (i.e.: our Royals Hot Lunch Program) can ONLY take place twice a month. This contract is effective now and runs until June 2024. The North Vancouver School PACs were not consulted or made aware of this contract until after it was signed.

In short, funds from the cafeteria sales are taken as profit by the operator with a portion going back to the school district head office to finance school district priorities. 

This news is devastating for our athletics programs. The hot lunch program  funds ALL athletics programs at our school and raises more than $30,000 annually. This represents a reduction of our total PAC funds from $65,000 to $29,000. Our student athletes are some of the best in the school district and the way we can support them is by keeping the extracurricular fees low, providing equipment and uniforms, funding transportation, and paying for big ticket items such as scoreboards and tents. 

Even if your child isn't in athletics the trickle down effect of this loss will negatively impact ALL programs. If your child is involved in clubs, robotics, dance, music, theatre or any of the other wonderful programs at our school the funding now will be either greatly reduced or gone as the PAC will have to grant monies from a much smaller fund each year. 

We have an opportunity now to make our voice heard. We are asking the school district to work with the cafeteria vendor to allow us to run the Royals Lunch Program concurrently as we did prior to Covid.

We have written a letter to the school district voicing our concerns but it's all hands on deck to make sure we reinstate this program and continue to FULLY fund the athletics programs.  Please take a brief moment to sign this petition and let's bring our FULL Royals Lunch Program back to Handsworth!
