The Issue

The village of Crawley Down and other local towns in West Sussex are in turmoil due to overflowing black bins, a direct result of the change in waste collection schedules. The previous system, which successfully saw bins collected every two weeks, provided the residents with the convenience and regularity they deserve. However, with the recent changes, people now find themselves in the frustrating position of running out of bin space well before the next scheduled pick-up.

As a resident and taxpayer, it is incredibly disheartening to see our village streets lined with overflowing bins. The regular collections we once enjoyed ensured our waste was managed efficiently, and our streets remained clean and tidy. The current arrangement has forced many to resort to utilizing their neighbours' bins or embark on inconvenient trips to the local tip, a burden that no taxpayer should have to bear.

More pressing is the looming threat of an environmental disaster, especially as the summer months approach. Overflows of general waste pose significant health risks, and the heat will only exacerbate the problem, creating an unsightly and unhygienic environment for everyone in the village. We must address these issues before they escalate.

The decision to reduce the frequency of collection appears to lack thorough consideration of the practical implications on our community. Restoring the previous system will not only alleviate the burden on residents but will also uphold the environmental standards our community deserves. We call upon the council to act swiftly and reinstate the bi-weekly collection of black and recycling bins, safeguarding the well-being of Crawley Down residents and maintaining the cleanliness of our village.

I urge anyone who values our environment and the rights of Crawley Down residents to join this cause. Sign this petition to voice our collective demand for the return of the previous bin collection schedule, ensuring a cleaner, healthier community for all. Together, we can inspire the change our village needs.
