UPDATE
This past friday, January 10th a small group of alumni from the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams—including our founder Houston Weber and two other NJ Lacrosse Hall of Famers—met with Montclair State University’s President, Athletic Director, Associate Athletic Director, and Vice President of Student Life in a closed-door meeting. This was a productive and solution-oriented discussion where we presented our case, sought clarity on the decision-making process, and introduced potential solutions that had not been previously considered.
While no immediate decisions were made (as expected), the meeting gave us an opportunity to voice our concerns and engage in meaningful dialogue with the administration. Importantly, we did not receive a definitive “no” regarding reinstating the programs. The Athletic Department and university leadership are still in the process of navigating the complex merger of the two athletic departments (MSUs and newly acquired Bloomfield College) into one unified Montclair State University program. The NCAA’s transitional guidelines for merging athletic programs following the acquisition of Bloomfield College have added layers to this process.
One of our key next steps is to await the results of our Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request, which should provide valuable insight into the financial realities that influenced these decisions.
We remain cautiously optimistic, as the university has expressed a willingness to meet with us again. This gives us the opportunity to return to the table with well-researched, practical solutions that address their concerns while continuing to advocate for the reinstatement of both men’s and women’s lacrosse programs.
It’s vital that we remain respectful and tactful in our approach, even as we advocate passionately for this cause. The administration is listening and has shown an openness to dialogue and exploring creative solutions. Moving forward, we ask everyone to continue fighting respectfully, share our message and practice"active patience," as this process will take time.
Thank you all for your continued support, and dedication to the future of Montclair State lacrosse. Please standby as we will provide further updates as new information becomes available.
Thank you.
