The Issue

I'm a young person deeply fond of my Kriel/Ganala community in Mpumalanga, South Africa. We face tremendous challenges being under the Emalahleni Municipality, and it's heartbreaking to witness the adverse effects on our beloved community. Recently, I watched in horror as someone's house was reduced to ashes simply because the municipality decided to take away our fire station.

Our lives and well-being should not be compromised due to administrative decisions that prioritize bureaucracy over community needs. For too long, we've suffered under the jurisdiction of Emalahleni. Essential services have been stripped away, leaving us vulnerable and underserved. Issues like diminished accessibility to emergency services highlight the pressing need for change.

Before amalgamation, our Ganala Municipality thrived with efficient local governance, ensuring that the community's best interests were prioritized. The cultural and historical significance of having our distinct municipality gave us a strong sense of identity and pride. By reinstating our municipality, we can ensure that public resources once again directly benefit our community.

Statistically, independent municipalities have been shown to manage local affairs more effectively because they understand the unique challenges and needs of their region. According to local government studies, municipalities that are smaller in size often demonstrate greater efficiency in delivering services, as local officials have a closer connection with residents and a clearer understanding of their community's needs.

We urge the relevant authorities to consider de-amalgamating Kriel/Ganala from Emalahleni and restoring our municipality. This action will not only return necessary services and management to our area but also restore the faith of the residents in our local governance system.

Please support us in rebuilding our community by signing this petition. Together, we can make a change that leads to a brighter and more sustainable future for everyone in Kriel/Ganala. Stand with us as we demand what's rightful: our very own municipality, once again prioritizing the needs of the people who call this place home. Sign now and help restore hope and safety to our community.
