The Issue

Living and working in Liverpool, it's become painfully clear how extending the paid parking hours until 11pm is going to severely impacted us all. Not only does it create unnecessary financial strain on working individuals who depend on street parking during irregular hours, but it also affects local businesses that thrive on the patronage of residents who live and work downtown. The simple act of changing free parking from 6pm to 11pm means additional costs and logistical headaches that many of us are unable to bear comfortably.

Local businesses, already battling economic challenges, are now facing a further drop in foot traffic as potential customers reconsider coming into town due to the added parking expense. Our city should be encouraging commerce and making it easier, not harder, for residents and visitors alike to support our local economy.

Liverpool is known for its vibrant community and bustling businesses, but these extended parking hours threaten the vitality of our town. Studies have shown that free parking contributes to increased business traffic, especially in urban areas where the cost of parking is a major deterrent for shoppers and diners. According to a report by Transportation Alternatives, cities with comprehensive parking reform that includes free evening parking, have seen a 15% increase in business activity during peak hours.

We call on the Liverpool City Council to reconsider this decision and restore free parking starting at 6pm as it previously was. This change will provide immediate relief to the working residents and help local businesses attract more customers, ensuring our city remains as lively and economically viable as we know it to be.

Join us in urging the council to prioritize their constituents’ needs and the well-being of our local economy. A small policy adjustment can significantly enhance the quality of life and economic health of Liverpool. Please sign this petition to make free parking in Liverpool available from 6pm once again.
