The Issue

The benefits of fluoride are well-documented and supported by the American Dental Association; it is crucial in preventing tooth decay and promoting overall dental health. Fluoride was removed from the city’s water supply without public notification and now is the time to rectify that situation

No, brushing and fluoride rinses are not enough. Studies show fewer cavities in people  who brush regularly and also drink water with safe levels of fluoride. Public concern about the dangers of fluoride may evolve from the high concentrations in toothpaste, which are 1000 times more than that of public water in most cities in the United States.

Fluoride, within regulated limits, is safe and offers substantial benefits. Many leading health organizations, including the Michigan Dental Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Association for Dental Research, the American Public Health Association and many more firmly support the fluoridation of public water supplies as a safe, economical and effective method to prevent and reduce dental carries. Evidence suggests that its removal can lead to a surge in dental diseases, increasing the burden on both families and the healthcare system.

The current situation in Wyandotte is a public health oversight that demands immediate attention and action. The undersigned concerned residents and citizens  urge the City Council and Wyandotte Municipal Service Commission to utilize the advice of trusted dentists and dental organizations when forming a strategic plan to restore fluoride to the water supply. This not only promises to enhance dental health but also reaffirms the city’s commitment to the health and well-being of its residents.

The restoration of fluoride has far-reaching implications, from reducing healthcare costs associated with dental treatments to promoting a healthier, more informed community. With change comes resistance, but the long-term benefits of reintroducing fluoride are undeniable and backed by rigorous scientific research and global health policy trends.

Join us in advocating for a healthier Wyandotte. Urge the City Council and municipal authorities to act swiftly by revisiting their decision and setting a plan in motion to reinstate water fluoridation. Your signature is more than just a call to action—it’s a commitment to a healthier future for everyone in Wyandotte. Please sign and support this crucial initiative today!
