Fishing at Beckton Boating Lake has always been more than just a recreational activity. As a personal experience, I used to take my young, 12-year-old nephew fishing here; it was our bonding time, our interaction with nature and the community, our escape. This experience is shared by many in Newham, where the declining accessible recreational activities are a growing concern among the residents. 

Fishing here is revered not just for its leisurely appeal but as a community binder. It offers youngsters an alternative to spending time in antisocial activities. More importantly, it assures the presence of a group of respectable and caring people around, thus contributing to a safer environment.

Moreover, the concerned authorities must remember the ecological benefits attributed to fishing. The catch-and-release method practiced at the lake teaches respect for the environment and care for the marine life while ensuring their numbers are maintained.

Reinstating fishing at Beckton Boating Lake is a way to revive a harmonious ecosystem, to replenish recreational options, and most importantly, to restore a sense of community for both young and old. It is a plea for wellbeing. Now is the time to acknowledge this impactful activity.
