Restore Federal Funding to Nourish Presque Isle State Park’s Beaches, Habitat

Restore Federal Funding to Nourish Presque Isle State Park’s Beaches, Habitat
The Issue
Presque Isle State Park, a designated National Natural Landmark, is one of the greatest natural assets in the entire Great Lakes region.
Stretching into Lake Erie as a rare freshwater peninsula, Presque Isle provides beautiful public beaches, globally significant habitat, and economic vitality for Northwest Pennsylvania. Its beaches remain strong, welcoming, and deeply valued by the millions who visit each year.
Presque Isle is constantly shaped by wind, waves, storms, and evolving environmental conditions. Our beaches desperately require routine replenishment of sand to protect shoreline stability, public access, and natural habitat.
Each year, approximately $3 million is expended for sand nourishment efforts:
· $1.5 million from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
· $1.5 million from the federal government through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Pennsylvania continues to provide its share.
This is the second consecutive year the federal government has failed to provide its $1.5 million share for sand nourishment.
We call on Congress and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to restore and uphold the federal government’s annual contribution for sand nourishment at Presque Isle State Park.
Presque Isle Partnership is a non-profit stewardship organization for Presque Isle State Park. This petition is about stewardship, partnership, and honoring long-standing commitments.
If you value your park and believe federal commitments to Presque Isle State Park sand nourishment should be honored, please sign and share this petition.
