When we pour a glass of milk for our families, we trust that it’s safe. But that trust is now at risk.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended its quality control testing for milk and other dairy products, programs that are vital for detecting dangerous pathogens and ensuring lab accuracy nationwide. This decision comes after major workforce cuts, with no clear timeline for restoring the safety measures we rely on.

And this couldn’t come at a worse time.

Bird flu has recently been detected in U.S. dairy cows, raising serious concerns about the safety of our milk supply. Without active FDA oversight and testing, there’s no way to confidently detect or prevent the spread of avian influenza through dairy products. Vulnerable populations like children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at the greatest risk.

We cannot allow budget cuts and staffing decisions to compromise something as basic and essential as food safety.

We demand that the FDA immediately reinstate its milk quality testing program and prioritize public health over politics and cost-cutting.
