Restore Fairness & Transparency at Sri Mandir Pty Ltd -A Petition for Accountability
The issue
Sri Mandir belongs to its community — to every volunteer, every devotee, every person who has contributed time, money, and heart. It must not be controlled by a select few acting without transparency or accountability.
In June 2022, members voted to appoint a temporary Caretaker Committee, with one clear purpose:
to investigate compliance issues and report back within four months (or at the next AGM).
Instead of fulfilling this mandate, the Caretaker Committee has continued to hold power indefinitely, re-appointing themselves. This is not what the members agreed to, and it has raised serious concerns about fairness, governance and representation.
Recently, the Committee uploaded the 2024 AGM Minutes to the website.
Below is one clear example demonstrating the inaccuracy of the published minutes:
The minutes state motions were “approved by a majority vote by show of hands and declared approved by the President”.
This is FALSE.
If motions were passed by a show of hands, the Minutes must state the number of votes in favour, against, and corresponding proxy counts. No hand count was conducted, and proxy declarations were not made. Motions were instead announced as passed solely based on the noise level in the room, without any transparent or verifiable voting method.
This is just one example — but it highlights a bigger issue:
decisions affecting the temple are being made without transparency, accountability, or proper process.
Why We Are Raising Our Voice:
Summary of Serious and Long-Standing Concerns Raised by Financial Members:
- Non-compliance with the 2022 AGM resolution, including failure to investigate and report alleged financial irregularities relating to the 2021 Committee.
- Selective communication and exclusion of members, where only certain individuals receive updates or are invited to events, particularly at the Pitt Town location.
- Irregular Committee appointments, including extensions of terms without member approval, self-appointments, and removal/appointment of directors without elections and confirmations.
- Selective enforcement of eligibility criteria, where general members are restricted, yet associates of the sitting Committee are advanced.
- Lack of transparent process for sub-committee and volunteer appointments, reinforcing control by a small group and systematically excluding others.
- Unfair handling of membership applications, including cases where membership fees were accepted in 2022 with neither approval nor refund—particularly affecting long-standing volunteers not aligned with the Committee.
- Failure to provide official Minute documents (2022 AGM, 2023 EGM, 2023 AGM, and 2024 AGM) despite repeated member requests for the past 12 months.
- AGMs conducted in an intimidating environment, allowing no opportunity for members to ask questions or raise concerns.
- Objections are not recorded, and resolutions are declared passed without a ballot or verifiable voting process.
This is not how a community organisation should operate.
Why Your Signature Matters: A temple is a place of devotion — but also a place of trust.
When decisions are made without fairness and when member voices are ignored,
that trust is broken.
We are not asking for conflict.
We are asking for integrity.
We are asking for proper governance.
We are asking for a Committee elected fairly by the members, for the members.
By signing this petition, you are helping to:
🕉 Restore transparency and accountability
🕉 Ensure all devotees are treated equally
🕉 Protect the rights of financial members
🕉 Call for a legitimate and representative Executive Committee
🕉 Bring back fairness, respect, and openness in temple management
Your support matters.
Your voice matters.
Together, we can ensure Sri Mandir remains a place for everyone — not just a few.
