The recent Steam Rewards redesign has drastically devalued Community Rewards for creators and players worldwide. Guides, artwork, screenshots, and other core contributions as well as profile awards for sustained engagement or special occasions (like birthdays) no longer yield points, stripping the joy of user appreciation. While it curbed clown farming on posts, the zero-points policy overcorrects, demotivating honest creators, active profiles, and friends gifting recognition.

Without change, user-generated content (UGC) and social interactions will plummet, weakening platform vibrancy and pushing creators to competitors. Restoring moderated points for verified positive awards on quality posts, reputable profiles, and heartfelt gifts would reinvigorate genuine participation, boosting engagement, loyalty, and Steam's unique community edge.

The January 2026 update is fresh, with backlash mounting on forums and Reddit. Implement moderated points for non-troll awards (e.g., profile activity thresholds) before disillusionment erodes Steam's collaborative magic.
