Dear signers,

Over 100,000 of you have now put your name to this campaign. This just goes to show the strength of feeling the British public have to ensure our leader acts with compassion.

Yesterday, MP Stephanie Peacock revealed that she asked the immigration minister how much taxpayer money was spent painting over cartoon murals to which he said there was no cost. It is important that we have transparency and clarity so we’ve placed a Freedom of Information request which gives us the right to see information held by the public authorities.

Specifically, we have asked for

  • The number of times since 1st January 2022 that the Home Office has requested for walls to be repainted at A) Manston Detention Centre, B) Kent Intake Unit, C) Any other detention centre or asylum intake unit; and
  • The total estimated cost to carry out any such changes identified above; and
  • The stated reason for the repainting of walls
  • Copies of any policies, frameworks or guidance used to assess the age appropriateness of asylum intake units  and detention centres for children

We’ll let you know when we receive a response. In the meantime, if you'd like to take an action to help, please see this post and consider drawing a cartoon for the campaign.

I haven’t had a chance to respond to everyone yet, but for those who have sent something in, thank you -they are beautiful.
