A free interactive and animated map for exploring passenger rail on Vancouver Island

With the change of government, we will soon have a new BC Minister of Transportation, so here's a free, interactive and animated map to help explain why we need passenger and freight rail on Vancouver Island.
See where people live, where people work and how they get there. This map will help you visualize transportation on Vancouver Island using the same information sources that the government uses. Around the railway, you can switch on layers for population, jobs, travel flows, highway traffic, crashes, BC Transit buses, bike lanes, ferries, flights, freight, shipping lanes and tidal currents and more.
It's a new tool in your belt to help understand Vancouver Island's transportation challenges now and in the future. It will certainly help people understand why we need to protect this corridor and keep the track in place to protect the alignment.
With your help we will continue the good work that is moving us toward the return of passenger rail on the island.
With gratitude,
Warren Skaalrud,
Petitioner and Founder of the Restore Island Rail Society.
