Is your city on track like Nanaimo is? Please write your City or Regional District council and ask if they have a resolution that supports the railway.
By unanimously passing a motion that includes the island corridor in their long-term Transit-Oriented-Development plans, Nanaimo has signaled to senior levels of government that they intend to use the rail corridor. And to top that off, the Island Corridor Foundation can now refer to that resolution in an updated business plan.
If all the municipalities pass motions like the one Nanaimo city council did, the entire region’s commitment to the corridor would strengthen the business case. So we need all the communities that live along the corridor to recognize the corridor's value in a way that a business case can reference.
The petition continues to grow! We've sailed past 33,000 just last week and it's already close to 34,000! I know these numbers are giving elected officials the strength to support rail. Here's the BC Parliamentary Secretary of Transit speaking about our corridor in the legislature.
Your signatures, your shares, and your promotions are all making a difference, keep up the great work! If you are feeling generous and want to help our non-profit society directly, you can make a Donation to us and that really amps up the possibilities for us to make an impact.
