The Petition to Restore Vancouver Island Rail just surpassed Twenty Two Thousand Two Hundred Twenty Two (22222) signatures!
I started the grass roots petition on July 28th, 2023 to raise Public awareness about the benefits of rail and the very real risk of losing the corridor if the government doesn't fund the track repairs. Losing the corridor and remediation has an estimated cost of $300-750 million, enough to restore the railway!
Remember, The Island Rail Corridor is a community asset owned by the 14 First Nations and 5 Regional Districts who are linked along the line. The Island Corridor Foundation is a non-profit registered charity.
This is our last chance to have to have a sustainable, comfortable, accessible, and dignified way to travel on Southern Vancouver Island.
I've put together a document called Vancouver Island Rail Project – The Last Opportunity that outlines these benefits and the risks involved with losing it. You can read it online, or download it as a PDF so you can send it to decision makers.
