THERE ARE MUCH BETTER ALTERNATIVES THAN HIGHWAY EXPANSION IN GOLDSTREAM PARK.
The Change Petition seeking to stop this wasteful project is here: https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-harmful-highway-expansion-in-goldstream-provincial-park
Although both Todd Litman and Alastair Craighead have refused to meet me, on this particular article we can all agree on the fundamental fact that Vancouver Island needs better transit.
I won’t ever agree with Alastair Craighead’s view that the Vancouver Island Rail Corridor should be nothing but a walking and cycling path when the two can coexist and be complimentary to one another. He’s a Friends of Rails to Trails Director too.. something to consider.
I won’t agree with the statistics Todd Litman is using when he accelerates bus travel times through congestion without dedicated bus lanes and completely dismisses the transportation network redundancy as an important factor when thinking about the transportation network on Vancouver Island.
The Railway can be restored without disturbing the highways much, or for very long. But this project on the Malahat will have you in single lane alternating traffic for over 2 years and forever beyond (that’s right, no new lanes), it will feel the same or worse shortly after it opens, I promise you that!
I recommend supporting the petition to stop it!
