While it doesn't actually answer the petition's 4 calls, it does show that the work is ongoing and that the Island Corridor Foundation is actively engaging with Canada and British Columbia to bring about a solution.
As a reminder, the work is underway with 4 working groups addressing the Victoria to Langford, Langford to Parksville, Parksville to Courtenay, and Parksville to Port Alberni pieces of the railway.
I recently had confirmation of that work from the Comox Valley Regional District where they put off a presentation by a private company attempting to short-cut the process while the engagement and dialog continues by the people close to it that know there are no hacks to get this done.
The Island Rail Corridor is getting a shave and a haircut and removing rockfall to make it safer, and the ICF is hiring a Corridor Project Manager. While Larry Stevenson, the CEO of the Island Corridor Foundation moves on and a new CEO comes in, I'm confident that with a new set of eyes on the changing landscape around the railway, we will eventually have trains running again.
It's not over yet! All Aboard!
