The people of Vancouver Island are Canadians too. In fact, the island is only Canadian because of confederation and the construction of our railroad that was completed in 1886 on this beautiful place that we call home.
Private industry abused it, but before it was lost forever, the 14 First Nations and 5 Regional districts it passes through saved it by banding together to form the Island Corridor Foundation. The ICF is a non-profit registered charity governed equally by First Nations and Regional District representatives. They acquired the railway in 2005 and have been trying to raise funding to restore it for the last 19 years.
Vancouver Island has been neglected for decades when it comes to transportation infrastructure despite being one of the fastest-growing areas in Canada.
We need the Federal government to commit dedicated resources to sit down with the Island’s First Nations to resolve long standing concerns such that Vancouver Island can rejoin Canada as a rail serviced region of this great nation.
Keep sharing and forward this email to anyone in Canada that would care, they all have a say! The Petition to the House of Commons will be presented to parliament soon with 7610 signatures. I'd love to see 10000 on this petition when that happens.
