El problema
La iglesia de S. Luis (s. XVI) se destruyó en un incendio intencionado hace ochenta y nueve años. Ya es hora de restituir una parte del legado artístico de un barrio -el Albaicín- que es Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Su restauración sería generadora de puestos de trabajo y también se crearían después, una vez que el inmueble tenga un uso cultural, social, etc.
La iglesia de San Luis (s. XVI), situada en el granadino barrio del Albaicín (España), se destruyó en un incendio intencionado el 9 de diciembre de 1933, hace ya ochenta y nueve años de este triste suceso. Se perdió absolutamente todo: cuadros, esculturas, alfarjes, el maravilloso retablo de principios del siglo XVIII, la talla del Cristo de la Luz de gran devoción popular y sobre la que había una bonita leyenda. Solo se salvó una escultura en piedra de San Luis, situada en una hornacina superior en la portada de la iglesia, que está en el Museo Catedralicio de Granada. Únicamente la torre está en un relativo buen estado de conservación. Desde aquel lejano año han pasado distintas formas de Estado y de Gobierno pero ninguna ha hecho lo más mínimo por reintegrar esta hermosa iglesia de gran valor histórico y patrimonial en la vida cultural de un barrio que es Patrimonio de la Humanidad, y que no se puede permitir que una parte de su legado artístico esté en ruinas.
Todas las personas que estamos firmando esta carta somos amantes del Patrimonio Cultural y queremos revertir la situación de abandono que sufre la iglesia de San Luis, es por eso que le pido que inicie los trámites necesarios para que la restauración de la iglesia de San Luis sea una realidad y no se demore más en el tiempo. El Ayuntamiento de Granada es el propietario de la iglesia de San Luis desde el año 2006.
Se pretende que esta iniciativa que ha nacido en la sociedad civil dé a conocer el estado lamentable de la iglesia de San Luis, vaya progresivamente creciendo en adhesiones, y cree un estado de opinión favorable para que con la colaboración de Administraciones, otros colectivos y personas físicas, se genere el impulso necesario para acometer la restauración de esta iglesia, la generación de puestos de trabajo en una ciudad castigada duramente por el desempleo y, su inserción en la vida cultural del Albaicín y Granada.

It is intended that this initiative that has been born in civil society makes known the lamentable state of the church of San Luis, progressively grows in adhesions, and creates a favorable state of opinion so that with the collaboration of Administrations, other groups and individuals, the necessary impulse is generated to undertake the restoration of this church, the generation of jobs in a city severely punished by unemployment, and its insertion into the cultural life of the Albaicín and Granada.
