The Issue

Daily Dunes is writing on behalf of concerned residents, parents, families, taxpayers, educators, and community members of Trustee Area 2 who have come to us because they believe their voices deserve to be heard. These are the people directly affected by the decisions made by the CVUSD Board, the students sitting in our classrooms, the parents trusting our schools with their children, the teachers and staff serving our communities, and the taxpayers funding the system. Community members have raised serious concerns regarding Trustee Jesus Gonzalez, including questions surrounding his past, allegations concerning a felony from the early 2000s, and questions about possible family or personal connections involving Desert Concepts Construction and CVUSD. We are not presenting unverified allegations as proven facts, but we believe questions involving an elected official, public contracts, and taxpayer resources deserve transparency, answers, and independent scrutiny. Public office is a position of trust, and when that trust is weakened, the community has a right to demand accountability. What is at stake is the future of our schools and the confidence of an entire community in the people entrusted to govern them. CVUSD is facing significant financial challenges, making responsible leadership, fiscal discipline, and transparency more important than ever. Every dollar directed toward construction, facilities, administration, programs, and other district priorities is a dollar that ultimately affects our students and families. Our community deserves to know that contracts are handled fairly, that potential conflicts are disclosed, that public money is protected, and that decisions are made because they are best for our students, not because of personal, family, business, or political relationships. Our children should never become collateral damage in a failure of leadership or public trust. We should not have to choose between demanding accountability and protecting the future of our schools. We deserve both. That is why we believe the time to act is now. This is about more than one trustee, one contractor, or one controversy. It is about establishing a standard for leadership in our community: transparency when questions arise, accountability when public trust is challenged, fiscal responsibility when resources are limited, and integrity when difficult decisions must be made. We believe Trustee Area 2 deserves leadership that can move forward without the weight of these unresolved concerns and restore confidence between the community and its school district. Daily Dunes respectfully asks Trustee Jesus Gonzalez to resign from the CVUSD Board of Education and give Trustee Area 2 the opportunity for a new beginning. This petition is not a declaration of guilt, it is a declaration that our community expects more from those entrusted with its future. Our students deserve leaders who put them first. Our families deserve transparency. Our educators deserve responsible leadership. Our taxpayers deserve accountability. And our community deserves a voice it can trust. If you believe the time for accountability is now, sign this petition.
