Hello friends and neighbors,

We need you to reach out to City Leaders now!

As you know, Chick-fil-A is trying to tear down local businesses at 1301 West San Carlos Street so they can build a drive-thru and a parking lot. The City’s Planning Department already said NO to demolition — but now it’s being appealed to City Council.  Next Tuesday, September 16th, at 1:30 p.m., the City of San Jose will decide if bulldozing local businesses to build a Chick-fil-A and parking lot is right for our Urban Villages (agenda item 10.3). Tell the City to prioritize neighborhood vitality by rejecting a proposed Chick-fil-A at 1301 W. San Carlos.

Here’s the problem: despite the thousands of signatures we have gathered, our Councilmember has expressed that “not enough neighbors voiced concerns” and “this doesn’t seem to matter that much to residents.”

We know that’s not true, so now it’s time to show them they are wrong and make sure we are heard. It matters deeply. We all have our reasons for opposing this project and at the end of the day, we all agree we don’t need to shut down local businesses to put in a parking lot. We need responsible development that strengthens our neighborhood (today and 20 years from now), not strips it away.

  1. Catalyze SV opposes the proposed single-story Chick-fil-A at Race and West San Carlos Streets in San Jose because the nonprofit supports dense housing and a mixed-use development instead of car-centric fast food restaurants
  2. Buena Vista Neighborhood Association opposes the short sighted redevelopment project that will burden the neighborhood for decades to come
  3. D6 Neighborhood and Community Leaders Group opposes the project and has asked for more appropriate high-density mixed use projects to be built on the site in allignment with the Midtown and West San Carlos redevelopment plans
  4. Thousands of neighbors have spoken out against this project as well for a multitude of reasons!
  5. Housing and Neighborhood Groups oppose the plan

We are asking you to take some time to once again make your voice heard; heres what we need from you prior to next weeks Council Meeting:

“Hi, I’m a resident of District 6. I want you to know I strongly oppose Chik-FilA’s project at 1301 West San Carlos. Please stop Chick-fil-A displacement of local businesses. We want responsible redevelopment that helps the neighborhood, not another fast food joint that hurts it.”

Ask your friends and neighbors to call and email too — numbers matter.

This isn’t just about Chick-fil-A. It’s about whether our voices count in shaping the neighborhood we live in every day. Let’s show City Hall that this DOES matter to residents.
