Victory at Planning Commission – But the Fight Isn’t Over
Friends,
We have good news to share: the San Jose Planning Department has issued a decision on the proposed Chick-fil-A development project — and our voices were heard.
While the planning staff approved the overall proposal, they rejected Chick-fil-A’s request to demolish the existing building on the site. This is a significant win for our community. By preserving the current structure, we are protecting the small businesses that operate there and preventing unnecessary displacement. In doing so, the site’s available parking is also significantly reduced, which further complicates Chick-fil-A’s plans for development.
This decision clearly reflects the concerns we raised about protecting local businesses, minimizing traffic and congestion, and preserving the character of our neighborhood.
However, we fully expect Chick-fil-A to appeal the decision. They have deep pockets and a history of pushing hard to get what they want. We must stay vigilant, stay organized, and keep showing up.
Thank you to everyone who has spoken out, submitted comments, and stood with us. This is your victory — and it proves that when we work together, we can shape the future of our city.
Stay tuned. More updates — and more opportunities to take action — are coming soon.
