Gen-Z-led protests:

 September 8, 2025, Nepal witnessed one of its darkest days in recent history. At least 19 innocent students and members of the public were killed, and over 200 injured, after police opened fire on peaceful Gen-Z-led protests in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Butwal, Bhairahawa, Bharatpur, Itahari, Damak, and other cities.

These protests were not just about the sudden ban on social media platforms. They were about deep-rooted corruption, lack of accountability, and a failed leadership that has repeatedly ignored the voices of Nepal’s youth.

Instead of listening to the genuine grievances of the new generation — who demand fairness, transparency, and justice — the government chose violence and repression. The deaths of these young people are not only a tragedy but also a national disgrace.

We, the undersigned, demand:

• Immediate resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for failing to protect the lives of citizens and for suppressing peaceful protests with deadly force.
• Independent investigation into the killings, holding those responsible accountable under the law. Commitment to anti-corruption reforms and meaningful youth inclusion in governance.

The Gen-Z generation represents the future of Nepal. Their sacrifice must not go in vain. Now is the time for real change — an end to corruption, authoritarianism, and abuse of power.
